A partly film, partly stage rendition of the 3rd Act Torso of Alban Berg’s “Lulu”. Laura Aikin (Lulu), Cornelia Kallisch (Geschwitz). Conductor: Franz Welser-Möst. Film director: Thomas Grimm … Alban Berg Lulu Opera
I would like to see a production of Lulu in which Lulu is played as a man with a male soprano in the lead. It would be an interesting twist in my view. If you strongly disagree, then I apologize for airing this strange point of view. But maybe some people find it intriguing.
I doubt Lulu would appeal to anyone in the mainstream art world. In fact it seems that opera followed the trend of the late 19th centerury, Veresimo-Pagliacci, Callveria Rusticana, Tosca in violence. (I would also put Carmen even though it predates Verisimo. Modern Opera like Wozzeck & Lulu were even more shocking in the frank sexuality. I mean The Countess Gershwitz is a lesbian!! That was shocking in 1925! Later on Peter Grimes by Britten with its ambigous anti-hero.
An interesting flashback on how this opera used to end in the days before Cerha brought forth his completion of Act III. Prior to that, the completed fragment of Act III was generally pantomined as you can see here.
This is unfortunatly is a tacky Eurotrash version. Both Lulu and Wozzeck are to opera what Edvard Munch’s Scream is to painting. A disturbing look at humanity. BTW Early 20th century opera was rejecting the grand style that was previelent in the 19th (Verdi, Wagner) but even in the 19th composers were tackling subjects closer to ordinary people in opera. (Verisimo)
Oooh this must be art. Ooooh it’s bizarre and a little shocking. Ooooh isn’t this daring?
Actually it isn’t. It’s salon art trying to be avant garde. Why salon? Because this is art made by and for very rich people. It’s establishment art with all the triteness one would expect.
kristopaivinen, I don’t understand what your problem is. I love it and find that Laura Aikin sings, and acts, beautifully. Outstanding performace. Is this Zurich ?
Lulu and Wozzeck have to be the 2 strangest operas in the repotoire. An opera about a schizophrenic army officer who kills his adulterous wife and an ammoral woman who ends up as a common streetwalker who gets murdered by Jack the Ripper.
Not quite close is Britten’s Peter Grimes and Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle.
I guess the guy with the black ballons is Jack the ripper and the the lady who says Nein, Nein and screams is Lulu and the other lady is Gershowitz but who is the young girl with the blond wig?
This is not art. It’s pure filth! It’s vulgar, tasteless and disgusting just for the sake of shock value. The entire staging reeks of feminist and left-wing propaganda; the indications of child abuse, the shameless depiction of patriarchy and men as oppressors (suggested by the fact that all men wear those black suits), and the portrayal of Schigloch in a wheelchair. None of these elements are suggested by the libretto or Berg himself. (continued) –>
magnífico

lol….
dammit Jack, you sick fuck!
Well, the harmonies are very complex. That alone distinguishes it from anything trite.

I would like some fried onion with that.

You REALLY have no idea of what you are talking about. It is so far from “establishment art” – nothing comfortable or “gemutlich” about this.
Besucht alle das Schwulenforum von CaptainBluebear08!
Tolle Musik und diesbezügliche vids.
Für jeden Arschficker ein MUSS!!!!!
wow, weird and whoa? lol
remember that Berg did not actually finish Lulu [he died] so any other musical/dramatic ending you see was constructed.

Disgusting. I’m sure Berg would agree.

Watch out for the scream at 7:45. Scared the beejuzus out of me. I love the way Laura slinks down from the mattresses very erotic.
hey…
I just love the music.
Is she suppose to represent the younger more innocent Lulu?

huh…this is pretty out!
Huh- this doesn’t resemble Lulu at all! WTF was it?
